    1. Drag your JPG files into the box, or choose Browse files.

    4. Download each PNG, or use Download all.

    Why convert JPG to PNG

JPG uses lossy compression, so every time you edit and re-save a JPG it can lose a little more detail. PNG is lossless: once your image is a PNG, saving it again does not degrade it. That makes PNG a good working format for screenshots, graphics with text and images you plan to edit.

Keep in mind that converting a JPG to PNG cannot bring back detail that JPG compression already removed, and the PNG file is usually larger than the original JPG.

JPG vs PNG at a glance

    • JPG: smaller files, best for photographs, no transparency.
    • PNG: lossless quality, supports transparency, best for graphics, logos and screenshots.

    Private and free

This converter uses your browser to do the work. Your images are not uploaded to ImgNexa, there is nothing to install, and there is no account or watermark.

When PNG is the better choice

PNG is the format to reach for when accuracy matters more than file size. It is lossless, so the picture is stored exactly as it is, and saving a PNG again and again never makes it worse. That is why designers use PNG as a working format for interface mockups, diagrams, charts and screenshots, where sharp edges and small text must stay crisp.

PNG also supports transparency. A JPG has no transparent pixels, so a JPG converted to PNG still has a solid background. If you need a transparent logo, you will have to remove the background in an image editor after converting.

What to expect from the result

Converting a JPG to PNG changes the container, not the picture. Blockiness or blur that JPG compression has already added will still be there, because that detail is gone for good. The PNG will usually be several times larger than the JPG, which is normal for lossless files.

    • If you only need a smaller file, PNG is the wrong direction. Try the PNG to JPG converter.
    • If a site asks for PNG, or you plan to edit the image many times, PNG is the right choice.
    • To keep the PNG from getting very large, use the Resize option to reduce the pixel size first.

    Common uses

    • Preparing screenshots and graphics for documents and presentations.
    • Uploading images to services that accept PNG only.
    • Creating an editing copy that will not lose quality when saved again.
    • Placing a picture on a design canvas that expects PNG.

Choosing between JPG and PNG for web use

On a website, the right format depends on what the picture shows. Photographs with smooth colour changes, such as landscapes and portraits, are usually best kept as JPG because the files are much smaller. Pictures with flat colour, sharp edges or text, such as screenshots, charts and logos, stay cleaner as PNG because there is no compression noise around the edges.

If you are not sure, convert one file both ways and compare the sizes. A PNG that is several times larger than the JPG of the same picture is a sign the image is photographic and may be better left as JPG for publishing. Converting to PNG is most useful when you plan to edit the picture further, or when you need a lossless copy to work from.

    Frequently asked questions

Is it free to convert JPG to PNG?

Yes. There is no account, no watermark and no limit on how many times you can use the tool.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs inside your browser, so your files stay on your device.

Will the PNG look better than the JPG?

No. PNG keeps the image exactly as it is now, but it cannot restore detail that was lost when the JPG was first saved.

How many files can I convert at once?

You can add up to 20 images at a time, each up to 25 MB.

Does the PNG have a transparent background?

No. JPG images have no transparency, so the converted PNG is fully opaque. To make an area transparent you need an image editor that can remove the background.

Why is my PNG bigger than the JPG?

PNG stores every pixel without discarding detail, while JPG throws some away to save space. A larger PNG is expected. Use the Resize option if you need a smaller file.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. Choose Browse files and pick photos from your gallery. The converted files can be saved from the Download button.
